Protecting the Nine is a community charity event dedicated to raising funds, awareness and meaningful conversation around mental health and suicide prevention. In Australia, 9 people lose their lives to suicide every single day. Behind this number are families, friends, teammates, workplaces and communities who are deeply impacted. This event is about coming together to honour those lives, support those who may be struggling, and remind our community that no one has to face mental health challenges alone. Presented by Navica Supports and hosted by The Yard Gym (TYG) Liverpool, Protecting the Nine will bring people together through connection, movement, fundraising and conversation. The day will be centred on unity, reminding our community that we are stronger when we stand together and that no one should have to struggle in silence. As part of the event, participants will take part in a 90 minute training program at the TYG Liverpool. The 90 minutes symbolises the 9 lives lost to suicide every day in Australia. The session will use a tag team approach, encouraging participants to support one another, have each other’s back and move together with purpose. It is a powerful reminder that, in training and in life, support matters. While participating in the training program is optional, we would love to see our community show up and move with purpose. It is a small physical challenge that symbolises something much greater: standing together for those we have lost, those who are struggling, and those who need to know they are not alone. This program is aimed to remind us that temporary discomfort is nothing compared to the lifelong impact of losing someone to suicide. The day will also include: - Food vendors - Local Business Stalls - Opportunities to contribute to a gratitude wall - Interactive activities and; - Opportunities for simple, meaningful conversations with your community, and Accredited Social Workers. These moments are designed to create a safe and supportive space where people can connect, reflect and feel part of something bigger. Protecting the Nine will also be supported by incredible advocates within our fitness and sporting community who are standing with us to back the movement. Funds raised through donations will support mental health awareness and community wellbeing initiatives, helping to strengthen pathways of support and encourage conversations before crisis. All proceedings will be donated to NOT JUST A STATISTIC Together, we are protecting the nine by standing for hope, connection and the lives that matter. Who this event is for? Protecting the Nine is open to everyone. Whether you are training, donating, attending with family, supporting a loved one, or simply showing up for the cause, your presence matters. This event is for anyone who believes mental health conversations should be met with compassion, not silence. Why we are doing this? This event was created to turn awareness into action. Suicide prevention is not only about crisis response. It is about connection, early conversations, community support and reminding people that help can exist before things reach breaking point. How people can support? There are many ways to support the movement. You can participate in the 90 minute training program, make a donation, attend on the day, visit the stalls, share the event, bring your family, or stand with us in support of those impacted by mental health challenges and suicide loss. A stronger closing call to action This is more than one day. It is a message to our community that mental health matters, support matters, and every life is worth protecting. Whether you move, donate, speak, listen or simply show up, you are helping create a culture where people feel seen, supported and less alone. Support note We acknowledge that conversations about suicide and mental health can be personal and difficult. Support and wellbeing information will be available on the day, and we encourage anyone who may be struggling to reach out to someone they trust or seek professional support. Protecting the Nine is open to all members of the community. You do not need to be an athlete or a member of the gym to stand with us. Whether you choose to train, donate, attend, volunteer, bring your family or simply be present, your support contributes to a bigger message: mental health matters, connection matters, and no life should be lost in silence.
